More than 50,000 votes cast in this week’s Battle River-Crowfoot by-election

Voter turnout for Monday’s federal by-election in the Battle River-Crowfoot riding was nearly 59 per cent.

Over 50,000 of the almost 86,000 registered electors cast a ballot. The numbers do not include those who registered on election day.

Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative Party of Canada candidate and the Leader of the Official Opposition to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government, won the by-election.

Member of Parliament-elect Poilievre garnered 80.4 per cent of the votes, while Independent candidate Bonnie Critchley was a distant second with 9.9 per cent support.

Of the over 200 Independent candidates that ran in the by-election, 75 of them received zero votes. See the full list of candidates and results here.

The electoral boundaries for Battle River-Crowfoot include Kneehill County, Three Hills, Trochu, and Drumheller in the south up to Camrose, Tofield, Viking, and Wainwright in the north.

According to Elections Canada, the validation of the by-election results is Saturday.
