Unger family recognized at Calgary Stampede as MV County’s Farm Family of the Year

The H & V Unger Farm is the 2025 Mountain View County BMO Farm Family of the Year.

The Calgary Stampede’s BMO Farm Family awards celebrate “the values, traditions, and community contributions that family farms bring to our society.”

The Unger Family’s roots in Mountain View County date back to 1930 when their ancestors settled near the East Olds Baptist Church. The family farm legacy originally started by Harry and Berna is carried on today by sons Mark and Loren and their wives Debbie and Karen.

Mountain View County Reeve Angela Aalbers points out that their Division 7 councillor Jennifer Lutz was able to participate in the BMO celebrations at the Stampede with the Unger Family.  She says “we were extremely pleased to have the Unger Family nominated and receive the BMO Farm Family award. Mountain View County is so lucky to have so many amazing farm families within our community that support and drive, and promote agriculture and this is just another great opportunity to demonstrate that Mountain View County has such wonderful families that are in the agriculture community.”

Each summer, the Calgary Stampede hands out the farm family of the year awards to families from each of the 19 districts south of Red Deer.
