Unofficial Nomination Day results show two candidates for Division 4 by-election

The unofficial results from Nomination Day show that two candidates have stepped up to run in Mountain View County’s Division 4 by-election.

Papers were accepted by Returning Officer Christofer Atchison ahead of the deadline at noon yesterday. He says “those candidates being Sean LaBrie and Tiffany Nixon. So now we are proceeding with a 24-hour waiting period, at which point in time those results will become official.”

The submissions remain unofficial until 12pm on Thursday, September 19th.

Atchison explains what his role as Returning Officer entails during the by-election process. He says “my responsibility is making sure the election process is conducted in accordance with the Local Authorities Elections Act and council’s Municipal Elections Bylaw. I’m certainly here to answer any questions that come up from any constituents or residents that are interested in the election process or on their opportunities to vote, as well as to help guide the candidates through the election procedures.”

Division 4 serves Elkton/Rugby, Westcott, parts of Fallentimber, Bergen, Harmattan and Westerdale.

Following the resignation of Division 4 councillor Gord Krebs this summer, Mountain View County councillors supported holding a by-election to fill the vacant seat at their table during the regular council meeting on August 27th.

Advanced Polls will be held on October 9th at the Melvin Hall from 3pm until 8 o’clock, and on October 10th at the Bergen Hall from 9am until 2pm.

The Division 4 by-election date is October 16th from 10am until 8pm at both the Melvin Hall and the Bergen Hall.

Atchison encourages residents to check out the Mountain View County website where they have an election page set up with all of the pertinent information or stay tuned to their social media channels which will have more information coming forward. He says “yeah, we are right now in preparations to conduct a virtual candidates forum. We conducted this in 2021 and had some rave reviews from electors that were able to get more information. So more information on that will be coming forth.”

The next general election is not slated to take place until October of next year.
