Alberta-Federal Partnership Funding Internet Access In More Rural Communities

Alberta’s government and the federal government are joining together to help connect more rural Alberta households to high-speed internet.

Ensuring that more rural communities have access to this basic service has been stated as a priority for Alberta’s government.

According to a press release, a partnership with the feds and the Universal Broadband fund will allow 120 more Alberta communities and more than 14,400 households to gain access to faster more reliable and affordable internet.

The combined investment from the provincial and the federal governments to assist with better connectivity is $150 million dollars.

Jason Nixon, Alberta’s Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services and the MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre, is happy to see significant investment being made into expanded broadband access in Clearwater County. He adds, these projects will connect 2,000 households and make it easier to work, learn, and stay connected in rural Alberta.

According to Michelle Swanson, Reeve and Division 7 Councillor with Clearwater County, with enhanced digital infrastructure, they are poised to bring unprecedented opportunities and economic growth to our community, benefiting residents and businesses alike.

Among the benefiting communities in Clearwater County are Burnstick Lake, Butte, Carlos, Caroline, Cheddarville, Codner, Crammond, Horburg, Nordegg, and Saunders.
