A producer-led elk population survey is being conducted by Alberta Beef Producers.
It will run from March 31st through April 2nd and the first two regions of the province to participate will be the Peace Region and Porcupine Hills.
Sam Vriend is the new Wildlife Coordinator for ABP, and he says the survey can be found on the ABP Daily website. Vriend says “we’re just looking for land owners to submit observations of elk. So we’re looking for producers just to count the elk on their own land or lands that they lease or rent at anytime during the survey period. This survey is going to help us to determine if land owner led elk surveys can produce accurate population estimates for elk within the province.”
If this survey is successful, the goal for ABP will be to conduct other similar ones in other areas of the province.
