Case closed: Town of Olds moves on from regional to municipal policing committee instead

Olds council gave the go ahead this week to all three readings of a bylaw to create the Town’s own Municipal Policing Committee.

The province approved a request from Olds to opt out of the Southern Alberta Regional Policing Committee in 2025

Mayor Dan Daley says Town’s policing committee will be made up of five people with a maximum of two Olds councillors and then three public at large members. He says “the goal of the committee will be to give direction to the RCMP as far as community priorities. The committee will not be directing the RCMP in any way in their operations. It is basically a committee that will be advising the RCMP of, you know, the priorities within the community and some of the important areas the RCMP may want to look into.”

Mayor Daley adds, there will be an ask going out for applications to come forward with a couple of stipulations including having no major criminal records or infractions.
