The Innisfail Eagles have moved another step closer to defending their Vanberg Cup title.
The Birds advanced to the North Central Hockey League Final thanks to a wild 8-7 double overtime win over the Generals in Lacombe on Friday, March 6th. Innisfail’s Riley Simpson scored the winning goal in Game 6 which allowed the Eagles to eliminate Lacombe and take the semi-final series 4 games to 2.
The Innisfail Eagles will now face off with the Wetaskiwin Longhorns in the league’s championship series. The Longhorns got past the Camrose Bruins 4 games to 1 in the league’s other semi-final series.
Innisfail beat Devon, Wetaskiwin, and Lacombe en route to winning the Vanberg Cup last season.
The Innisfail Eagles will host the Wetaskiwin Longhorns for Game 1 of the best-of-seven battle for the Vanberg Cup on Friday, March 13th at 8pm.
Game 2 is in Wetaskiwin on Saturday, March 14th at 7pm.
Game 3 is at the Twin Arenas on Saturday, March 21st at 6pm.
Game 4 is at Co-op Place on Sunday, March 22nd at 6:30pm.
If necessary, Game 5 is in Innisfail on Wednesday, March 25th at 8pm.
If necessary, Game 6 is in Wetaskiwin on Friday, March 27th at 8pm.
If necessary, Game 7 is in Innisfail on Saturday, March 28th at 6pm.
