A 4-2 triumph over the Calgary Canucks on Friday, February 20th gave the Olds Grizzlys their longest winning streak in over a decade.
At that stage of the weekend Olds had also climbed within 7 points of the Canucks (21-22-2-1) in the standings as the playoff drive continued. However, the Canucks would beat Drayton Valley 2-1 on Saturday at the Ken Bracko Arena and the Grizzyls fell 6-3 to the Thunder on Sunday afternoon leaving the possibility of postseason action for the first time since 2020 clinging to a thread. With 7 games remaining in the regular season the Black & Gold are 9 points behind the Canucks. Calgary has 9 games left.
According to the schedules and results available on the Alberta Junior Hockey League website, the win over Calgary gave the Grizzlys their first 4 game winning streak since November 6th through the 13th of the 2012-2013 season. Another milestone that is still in sight – even if the playoffs are a long shot – is the first 20 win season since the 2014-2015 campaign when Olds was 5th in the 8 team South Division with a record of 24-27-5-4.
The Grizzlys (16-28-2-2) final homestand of the 2025-2026 regular season will wrap up in the next 8 days with games on Friday at 7pm versus Whitecourt (33-11-1-2), Saturday at 6pm against Lloydminster (27-14-3-3), and on March 3rd when Canmore (28-18-2-1) comes to the Sportsplex at 7pm. Tickets to any of those games or to the team’s Awards Banquet on March 1st at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites are available here. Olds will then play 4 straight road games to close out the regular season including a trip to Calgary for the finale on March 14th.
