Zone meetings for beef producers in the province kicked off last month with stops in places including Grande Prairie, Barrhed, Olds, and Cochrane.
Alberta Beef Producers Vice-Chair Kent Holowath highlights the fact that producers are focused on keeping their operations viable in an environment where costs, administration, and complexity continue to grow. He says “there is a strong desire to make sure policies and programs actually work on the ground not just on paper and there is a clear expectation that producer’s experience and practical realities need to be part of how decisions are being made.”
More zone meetings for beef producers are coming up this month in Rumsey, Brooks, Oyen, Vegreville, Wainwright, and St. Paul. Holowath has been pleased with the response to the meetings so far. He says “one of the biggest things we are hearing right now is that producers really value the chance to be in the room and have an open and honest conversation. The questions have been good and the discussion overall has been thorough with people very engaged.”
ABP’s annual general meeting is set for March 3rd in Calgary with either in-person or virtual options available for producers to attend. More details can be found online at abpdaily.com.
