Key indicators point to ‘resilient and growing’ local economy in Sundre

With over $9.1 million in total building value in 2025, the Town of Sundre is reporting a significant increase as compared to previous years.

Benazir Thaha Valencia, Director of Community Development, says it is the highest total value for building permits in 15 years if you compare the same variables.

She adds, when all of the indicators are put together – strong construction values, increased residential development, and low commercial vacancy – they point to a resilient and growing local economy. Thaha Valencia says “from our perspective, these numbers tell a story of confidence and steady momentum. It reinforces the fact that Sundre is positioned for growth, while maintaining the small town character that residents and businesses value.”

When it comes to new dwelling permits in Sundre, she points out that 2025 saw a solid improvement over the previous year with over $8.4 million in residential building permits issued.

Commercial vacancy has remained relatively low in 2025 with an annual average vacancy rate of 2.5 per cent. Thaha Valencia says “it suggests that local businesses are doing well and there is ongoing interest in our downtown spaces.”
