The Mountain View Colts continued their fantastic start to the new year, picking up back-to-back wins this past weekend in Heritage Junior Hockey League action.
The Colts hit the road Friday night to take on the Strathmore Wheatland Kings and came away with a 3–1 victory, backed by a stellar 32-save performance from Kaiden Toussaint. Nate Smith opened the scoring on the power play, while Ryder Hammer and Joseph Krukowski added third-period goals to secure Mountain View’s first road win of the year.
The Colts then returned to the friendly confines of the Didsbury Memorial Complex on Saturday night, welcoming the High River Flyers for Alumni Night.
Prior to puck drop, the Colts honoured their 2016 HJHL Championship-winning team with a special pregame ceremony, and the current squad made sure the alumni had plenty to cheer about.
Mountain View’s offense exploded as Sawyer Campbell recorded his first career HJHL hat trick. Nate Smith added a pair of goals, while Tyler Giorgi, Conner Campion, and Krukowski also found the back of the net, powering the Colts to a dominant 8–2 home-ice victory. Smith and Campbell both finished the night with five points.
In goal, William Steingart stopped 15 shots to earn his third win of the season, as the Colts improved to an impressive 14–3 record at home.
Mountain View now heads out on the road to face Ponoka and Sylvan Lake before returning home January 30th for their final home game of the regular season against the Strathmore Wheatland Kings. Stay tuned to My Mountain View Now for updates on the Colts’ Round 1 playoff opponent.
