Despite cold temperatures, another successful food hamper program has brought Christmas cheer to the community.
Ashley Edwards, Volunteer with Heart 2-U Didsbury, states that about 175 hampers were handed out over the weekend which is about 15 more than usual. She says “I just want to really send a big thank you to everybody again, because this week was very cold and that makes everything a lot harder. Hauling the groceries and building the hampers, it just makes everything a lot harder, it takes a little longer. So just a big huge thank you to all our volunteers that just made it so smooth and making sure that everybody got their hampers this year.”
With a higher need this year for the food hampers, Edwards notes that everyone in Didsbury really stepped up and it is an amazing community. She says “they are filled with dry goods. This year we were able to do some vegetables. The Westglen (School) band fundraiser, some people donated their vegetables to us. We were able to do a few hampers with that. Bread was donated but it is a lot of dry food so we are able to make it last a little longer, hopefully, for people. Instead of frozen turkeys and stuff, they would get a gift card so they can go do what they need to do.”
