Chinook’s Edge School Division and the entire province continue to brace for what will happen next with the Alberta Teachers Association having already given strike notice for October 6th.
CESD Superintendent Ryan Sawula says they respect the provincial bargaining process and they are hoping for a timely and positive resolution. However, as it stands right now, that is not looking very likely and they are anticipating that classes will be cancelled on Monday and schools will temporarily close. Sawula points out that they have a labour action page on their website cesd73.ca. He says “there is some frequently asked questions on there and then there is also an email that if they have got questions about labour action that there is a place on there where they can ask specific questions if there is something that isn’t addressed or they are not seeing and then again just our commitment that if anything changes we will be communicating directly with parents as soon as we know.”
Sawula notes that schools in Chinook’s Edge were working with students today to take some personal belongings home to gear up for next week.
During the labour action, the provincial government has announced some supports for families and more details can be found online at alberta.ca.
