A report of a fire in Red Deer County has led to the arrest of copper wire thieves.
According to Innisfail RCMP, the fire happened near the Highway 54 bridge on August 28th and the Innisfail Fire Department had located two men burning copper wire.
Police arrived and initiated a traffic stop on the truck the pair were driving.
The driver and passenger were arrested and a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a total of 187 pounds of copper wire along with break and enter tools.
The two men – a 49-year-old and 29-year old – who are both from Red Deer are slated to appear in court in Red Deer next week (September 10th) to answer to charges including unlawful burning of hazardous material.
