Pedestrian dies following hit and run collision in Blackfalds

A fatal incident in a parking lot has led to a Penhold resident being charged with manslaughter.

The hit and run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian happened just after 11:30 on Monday night (June 16) and the parking lot was located off of Highway 2A in Blackfalds.

Mounties say the 31-year-old suspect left the scene and “was later arrested in Red Deer after another motor vehicle collision.”

The victim was a 39-year-old man who was tended to by emergency workers before being transported to hospital where he would later succumb to his injuries.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was called in and took carriage of the investigation.
