“It’s going to be an exciting day”: Local McDonalds locations prepare for another McHappy Day

McHappy Day will return on May 8th at McDonalds locations across Canada, including three in the Olds area.

Operations Supervisor for Sundre, Olds, and Innisfail Martin Bock says all three locations will be participating, and encourages residents to do the same.

“It’s going to be an exciting day,” he says. “We’ll have some guests coming in and some volunteers coming in to help support and raise funds.”

“Proceeds from every single food item purchase will be going towards these charities, we will also be selling socks and collecting cash donations as well.”

Locally, money raised on McHappy Day will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities in Calgary or Red Deer, providing families with a place to stay, enjoy a meal, and forget about the stress that comes with having a sick child.

“We have one in Calgary and there’s one in Red Deer too, and basically it’s a house for families with sick children or children going through care at the hospital to stay in, so they don’t have to worry or stress about the financial side of things while they’re going through that which is a huge relief and takes some of that burden off of them,” Bock says. “They have crafts, they have game rooms and exercise rooms, people who come in and cook, and it’s a pretty amazing thing.”

There are plenty of ways to get involved too.

On McHappy day, you only have to order the usual to donate because a portion of proceeds from every menu item sold will go directly to RMHC. Outside of the menu, you can also purchase a pair of McHappy Day socks, make a $2, $5, or $10 cash donation, or round up to the nearest dollar on your order.
