Temporary water restrictions for Town of Olds to start on April 3

The Town of Olds has announced that a temporary level 2 water restriction will be in place this week.

It will take effect at 7am on Thursday, April 3rd and the Town anticipates it will last for about 24 hours.

The restriction will allow for scheduled maintenance on the South Reservoir in Olds to facilitate required upgrades and thus ensure long-term system reliability and efficiency. Dustin Schmidt, Supervisor in the Utilities Department with the Town of Olds, says “I would consider it as an upgrade, a structural upgrade to better track the inflows and outflows of the water coming into the reservoir and going out.”

Schmidt notes that tap water will remain safe to drink. He says “that’s correct. Yeah, it doesn’t affect any of the water quality. It’s strictly just on the pressure in our system and how we can distribute it in the community. We are just being cautious on that.”

Residents and businesses are asked to conserve water on Thursday to help maintain supply and system pressure. Residential restrictions to preserve water supply on Thursday mean that certain uses will not be permitted including washing vehicles, homes, driveways, windows, patios, and filling swimming pools, spas, as well as fountains and other water features.

The on-call number for those experiencing water issues is 403-994-1376. More details are available online at Olds.ca.
