Long-time central Alberta MP elects not to go for a sixth term

The MP for Red Deer-Mountain View has announced that he will not be letting his name stand as the Conservative candidate for the riding in the upcoming federal election.
Earl Dreeshen issued a media release on Tuesday night stating that he will continue to serve his constituents until the next federal election but after that it is on “to pursuing other interesting endeavours, just ones closer to home.”
Dreeshen was elected by central Alberta voters in 2008 and 2011 as the MP for Red Deer, and again as the MP for Red Deer-Mountain View in 2015,2019, and 2021.
Among the accomplishments highlighted in the statement for Dreeshen while representing the local constituency in Ottawa were “helping to secure federal funding for the Red Deer Regional Airport expansion, assisting in brining the Canada Winter Games to Red Deer, securing federal economic stimulus for our business and municipalities, and working with Olds College, Red Deer College, and Red Deer Polytechnic to gain federal assistance to help advance their high standards of education.”
Following his 34 year teaching career, the now 71-year-old Dreeshen has spent the past 16 years in Parliament.
He also used the January 21st media release to thank his wife Judy, his family, his staff, and his constituents. Dreeshen says he has “the utmost confidence in our Leader Pierre Poilieve. I am so proud of the Conservative common-sense renaissance he has led from coast to coast. Wtih the winds of change also comes the need for new voices, new perspectives, and new ideas.”
