Innisfail’s Mayor says focus on housing, economic development will continue in 2025

2024 was a robust year for building permits, a new commercial plaza, and housing starts for the Town, according to Innisfail’s Mayor.

Jean Barclay says the Town has also been able to attract new investment into the new industrial park, which is exciting.

She adds, things are looking very positive for the community of Innisfail going into 2025 and they look forward to continuing on the momentum built during the past year.

Mayor Barclay is very excited about the new year and all of the great things that will be happening in Innisfail. She says “we’re going to continue to focus on housing, to focus on economic development, and continuing to make Innisfail a great place to live. You know so much of that credit goes to our residents and all of the volunteers in the community for making it such a wonderful place.”

Inflation has been a challenge for Canadians in 2024. Mayor Barclay points out that there is consumer inflation but inflation for municipalities is somewhat different. She says “things like concrete have increased 30 per cent and there so there is a lot of pressure on us. I think we are very fortunate in the sense that we don’t carry a lot of debt. So that is helpful to us being able to get through our budget deliberations satisfactory, but we’ll see how it goes going forward.”

Mayor Barclay knows organizations like Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) are always advocating for a better funding pot and she says they will see how that works out in the future.
