Mountain View Colts Lose In Heartbreaking Fashion To Cochrane Generals

The Mountain View Colts remain winless to start the Heritage Junior Hockey League season, following a heartbreaking loss at home on Friday night.

The Colts welcomed the Cochrane Generals to the Didsbury Memorial Complex for the first and only time this regular season.

After scoring just 1 goal during a (0-2) opening weekend, the Colts would double their season total after goals from Konnor Poitras (1) and Corbin Rae (2) would put the blue and red up by a pair after just 10 minutes of play.

The Generals would get a quick goal just 3:08 into the second period to pull within 1.

Jordan McGinnis would do all he could in the 3rd period, making a crucial partial breakaway save in the early stages of the final frame.

However, the Generals would continue to push and eventually found a reward for their efforts.

Generals captain, James Quaife’s seeing eye point shot with just 2:52 remaining would beat McGinnis under the arm and tie the game at 2.

Then, after a flurry of opportunities, a scramble in front of the Colts’ net would eventually lead to Alexander Devnich (2) chipping the puck over a sprawled out McGinnis to bury the game winning goal with just 1:17 to go.

A deflated Colts group did all they could to generate a push back in the final minute, but eventually would run out of time.

The loss extends the Colts losing streak to 3 games, while Cochrane improves to 2-1-0 on the year.

McGinnis would make 33/36 saves in the loss, while Isaias Maddigan stopped 26/28 to earn the win.

Things don’t get much easier for Mountain View, who now travel to Sylvan Lake to take on the Wranglers on Saturday night.

Prior to tonight’s game, 96.5 CKFM spoke with Colts’ Head Coach, Ron Doig.

96.5 CKFM also caught up with Colts veteran Aiden Saunders prior to the game.

The Colts will return to home ice on Friday, October 4th, when they take on the Okotoks Bisons.
