Fatal collision on Highway 2 in Airdrie claims life of Edmonton man

Airdrie RCMP attended the scene of a fatal collision on Sunday morning.

It happened at about 6:15am on August 25th, approximately two kilometers north of Veterans Way along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway in Airdrie.

Police say preliminary findings suggest that a south bound car left the road surface and rolled. RCMP note that while rolling off the road surface, it impacted a south bound van causing the two vehicles to be disabled, coming to rest in the north bound ditch.

The driver and only occupant of the south bound car, a 25-year-old male resident of Calgary was transported to hospital in Calgary for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the south bound van, a 56-year-old male resident of Edmonton, was pronounced deceased on scene while the 10-year-old male passenger was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Edmonton with unknown injuries.

Mounties express their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
