Alberta triples mental health funding for continuing care workers

Alberta’s government is tripling its funding for mental health support for continuing care workers, with a new $7.5 million investment announced yesterday.

The funding will expand the Care for Staff initiative, which provides counselling, workload training, and wellness programs like yoga.

Last year alone, the program supported over 12,000 front-line staff across 126 organizations in the province.

Alberta’s Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services Jason Nixon says the investment recognizes the vital, often emotional work done by staff supporting Alberta’s seniors, vulnerable populations, and those with disabilities.

The money will allow the Care for Staff program to continue for another two years, helping build a healthier, more resilient workforce as Alberta prepares for a rapidly aging population.

The Alberta Continuing Care Association is working with the Christian Health Association of Alberta, the Alberta Seniors and Community Housing Association and the Continuing Care Safety Association to distribute this grant.
