Mountainview County invites residents to attend open houses to discuss Sundre Airport Concept Plan

Mountainview County is inviting residents to attend one of two upcoming open houses to discuss the Sundre Airport Concept Plan.

According to the county, this comes due to the desire from community members who have indicated they see the airport as a “vital facility” that offers unique opportunities for the region, with many saying they wish to see it playing a larger role in future economic development in the region.

The plan was created to provide guidance on the airport’s future growth while identifying suitable developments and uses for the surrounding lands.

The plan includes six sections- one surrounding the airport’s hangars and runways, another rather undeveloped area that includes a portion of runway, two that are currently being used for aggregate extraction, and two more that remain “bare land.”

Residents have two options if they wish to participate. The first meeting is scheduled for May 14th at 6:00 p.m. and will be conducted virtually. A second in-person option is also on the calendar, set for May 26th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sundre legion.
