This Is BeGrainSafe Week

The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association is raising awareness about the importance of grain safety with the fourth annual BeGrainSafe Week, taking place August 12th to 18th.

The annual public safety campaign is part of CASA’s BeGrainSafe program, which launched in 2017 in response to increased grain entrapment fatalities.

The BeGrainSafe program provides prevention education, rescue training and on-site workplace training to heighten awareness about grain hazards and ultimately save lives.

Grain in motion can be extremely hazardous since it acts like quicksand, quickly pulling the victim downward. And once trapped in grain, escaping on your own is impossible. What’s more, grain entrapments can occur anywhere grain is stored, including grain trucks, bins, and piles.

The best way to stay safe around grain is to keep out of it.

Always ensure the grain is in good condition, and keep children and unauthorized individuals away from grain hazards.

By having a plan to BeGrainSafe, we can help ensure the safety of everyone on our farms.
