Micro grants funding major ways to be grateful for volunteers

2026 is International Volunteer Year and locally the Town of Olds is making some changes to how it goes about recognizing its volunteers.

Community Facilitator Trina Radcliffe point out that they have moved away from a one night volunteer event and they are helping groups recognize their volunteers through the use of micro grants of up to $500 dollars to host their own appreciation activities. Radcliffe says “we have our micro grant application online, so that is olds.ca/volunteering. All of our grants are there, it is a Google form. It is quick, it is easy to fill out and you can also nominate one of your volunteers from your organization for our volunteer of the year program.” Follow the Community Connection Centre on Facebook for more details.

Nominations in Olds are also open now for annual volunteer honours including the Citizen of the Year as well as the Youth and Senior Citizen of the Year awards. The deadline for nominee submissions is April 15th. National Volunteer Week is slated for April 19th to the 25th.
