Mounties were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision shortly before 8am on Tuesday, March 4th.
It happened near the bridge coming into the Town of Sundre on Highway 27 at the intersection with Highway 760.
Corporal Troy Savinkoff with Alberta RCMP Media Group points out that witnesses allegedly observed a vehicle driving rather erratically before the collision. He says “that vehicle ultimately ran a red light, striking three separate vehicles and causing injuries to occupants within those vehicles as well as the driver of the vehicle itself. STARS Air Ambulance was stood up. I don’t have an update for you on the extend and how many injuries we do have, but some were fairly significant and it is that case whenever STARS is activated.”
The suspect driver is a 62-year-old male and RCMP do believe alcohol was a factor. Savinkoff adds, the investigation is ongoing. He says “whenever you talk about impaired driving, 30 per cent of all fatal collisions have alcohol as a contributing factor. So it is something we need to eliminate, you know, and then you tag that on with just erratic driving behaviour and it was a dangerous situation and hopefully those that were injured can recover safely.” At this time, he notes that there are no fatalities.
