Pink Shirt Day has been an annual day to celebrate kindness, caring and inclusivity for almost two decades now.
It began in Nova Scotia in 2007 when two teenagers organized their school to wear pink shirts in support of a fellow student who was bullied for wearing one.
Lauren McMullen – Director of Youth, Community and Family Services with BGC Olds and Area – highlights the fact that pink shirts are available through their website and social media channels. She says “you can go on there click the link and order. Orders just have to be in before February 15th. This is a fundraiser for our club, also it helps show kindness throughout the community if we are all wearing pink on Pink Shirt Day which is really important to us here are BGC Olds and Area.”
According to McMullen, their environment at the Boys and Girls Club Olds and Area is about belonging and positive relationships. She says they hope to spread that around Olds and see everyone wear pink shirts on February 25th.
