Mounties clock speeder going 178 km/hr on QEII Highway

Airdrie RCMP say the driver of a speeding vehicle had two children in the rear seats who were not properly secured.

The traffic stop was initiated north of Airdrie on the QEII Highway on the morning of Sunday, February 8th and police note that the driver has been summoned (x3) for a court appearance in March.

Alberta RCMP point out that so far in 2026, they have responded to 19 fatal collisions and 21 deaths have occurred as a result across the province.

Mounties say “excessive speed combined with the failure to properly use seatbelts significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death.”

Motorists are reminded by law enforcement officials to obey posted speed limits and to also avoid distractions, ensure all occupants are properly restrained, and to never drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
