Birds beat Barons twice on opening weekend of North Central Hockey League playoffs

The Innisfail Eagles have jumped out to a 2 games to none lead in their best-of-five playoff series with the Devon Barons.

The second place Birds beat the seventh place Barons 7-4 at home on Friday, February 6th. Colten Hays had 2 goals and an assist, while Nick Bell chimed in with 4 helpers. Corson Waiting notched a goal and an assist. Wade Waters kicked out 21 of 25 shots in net for the Eagles.

Innisfail would go on the road and come back with a 4-2 victory on Saturday, February 7th. Chance Griffith made 18 saves to post the victory between the pipes and Hayes had 3 assists. Jacob Wozney scored once and set up another, while Jeremy Klessens, Josh Gette and Ty Clay also lit the lamp.

Innisfail will go for a sweep when Game 3 is played at the Twin Arenas on Wednesday night. If necessary, Game 4 would be at Devon’s Dale Fisher Arena on Valentine’s Day.
