Innisfail leading North Central Hockey League in wins as regular season winds down

Despite having their 10 game winning streak snapped, the Innisfail Eagles still have the most victories in the league with just one game remaining before the playoffs.

Innisfail suffered a 6-4 defeat in Devon at the hands of the Barons on Saturday, January 24th. The Barons won the special teams battle as they netted a shorthanded goal and went 2-5 on the power play. The Eagles were 0-5 with the man advantage. Former Olds Grizzly Jeremy Klessens had a goal and an assist in the loss for Innisfail.

The Birds (12-3-0) will battle for first place in the regular season finale at home on Saturday, January 31st when they host the Lacombe Generals (11-4-0). The Generals are just two points back of Innisfail and the Camrose Bruins (11-2-2) in the standings in the nine team league. The last game for the Bruins is in Camrose on Saturday versus the winless/last place Morinville Kings (0-15-0).

Innisfail’s 10-game winning streak began with a forfeit victory over Morinville on October 26th and it continued through a 1-0 shutout triumph over Stony Plain on January 18th. The Eagles had begun the 2025-2026 campaign 2-2 with a 8-6 win in Tofield on October 4th, a 5-2 loss at Camrose on October 11th, they beat the northern Birds 7-4 in Stony Plain on October 18th, and then they dropped a 8-5 decision to the Wetaskiwin Longhorns at home on October 19th.
