New users were up by about 16 per cent from 2024 to 2025 at the Mountain View Food Bank.
Two years ago there were 212 and last year it jumped by 34 to 246.
With the weather being so cold in December, Treasurer Penny Coyne notes it was a very busy month for them. She adds, they had a couple extra Thursdays that they were open in the evening in December to meet the community’s demand for their services. Coyne says “the generosity of people in Olds, they’ve looked after us during this year. The surrounding community has also really stepped up to the plate. So, you know, if they have some time or extra cash laying around, we’re good for that.”
Coyne says they are always looking for a few more volunteers to help out, and donations are welcome at any time of year as well. She says “people could come in anytime and get the lowdown, and have a tour or whatever they want to be able to see if they could fit into some volunteering help with us at some point in time. They could phone. We have an answering service or they could just come in because we have an administration office here.” The phone number is 403-556-1693.
The total number of hampers they handed out in 2024 was just over 2,400 and it was about the same in 2025. The hampers are available six times a year. There is also the free table, which is available every week. The hours at the Mountain View Food Bank are from 9am until 1pm on Tuesdays.
