Following this fall’s municipal election, newly elected public officials had to jump right into orientation and then local budget talks.
In the Town of Innisfail, council approved the 2026 budget earlier this month with no increase to the mill rate.
Mayor Jean Barclay believes it is exciting times for central Alberta and the region. She says “You know here in the Town of Innisfail that we are looking forward to the next year for sure and the next four years and getting to work. I know the new councillors are excited to begin that process too.”
Among the accomplishments for Innisfail in 2025, she listed beginning development on the new Napoleon Lake South residential subdivision. Mayor Barclay says “that has a 62 unit residential area that will have mixed housing, duplexes, single family homes, as well as town homes. So we are very excited about that.” A progress report was presented to council by administration in December and sales remain strong with 70 per cent of lots conditionally sold. Additionally, the deep utility installation has been completed and in November the shallow utility installation for companies such as Fortis, TELUS, and ATCO started.
Four new members joined Innisfail council this fall and Mayor Barclay calls them “a very dedicated group” that looks forward to working together in 2026 and beyond.
