The Olds Royal Canadian Legion was jam packed on Thursday, October 23rd for the marquee event of BDC Small Business Week in the Town of Olds.
The Olds & District Chamber of Commerce recognized the local business community during the 2025 Small Business Awards Gala.
The Community Spirit Award was bestowed upon the Olds Elks Lodge #100 and their Treasurer, Steen Pedersen, points out that they recently donated money to the female youth hockey program in Olds, and they are partnering with the Men’s Shed of Olds to build locker rooms for referees and teams at Normie Kwong Park. He says “oh it is an amazing honour. We are humbled, like to be recognized in our community by our community members. A community that we think is top shelf and we work hard to try to add to what is already proving to be an excellent place to live, and raise kids and have a family, and do all that. We are just trying to find ways that we can add value.”
Pedersen reflected on a great evening for the local business community. He says “sort of speaks to how big our community is starting to get and how engaged the community is. I was quite surprised when I walked in and I saw how many people were here, how involved this was, and quite frankly how well put together it was. It was really a glowing testament to the great community we have.”
The Business of the Year winner was Jensen’s Men’s Wear, the Best New Business went to Rona Olds, and the Olds Bottle Depot received the Innovation Award.
The People’s Choice Award went to Olds Community Pharmacy, Doug Rieberger was honoured with the President’s Award, Dane Drent with Boomer Movers is the Youth Employee of the Year, and Logan Cala took home this year’s Exceptional Customer Service Award.
