Number of participants, amount raised up over last year for 2025 Water Valley Terry Fox Run

More steps forward for cancer research were made over the weekend with another wildly successful edition of the Water Valley Terry Fox Run.

Volunteer Coordinator Mary Thomson says they had the best turnout that they have had in several years with 64 participants and volunteers. She notes that they were up from the $10,800 they raised in 2024 to over $12,000 this year so far and there is still money coming in. Thomson says “from the time the run (in Water Valley) started 37 years ago, we have broke our $250,000 money (raised milestone) for Terry Fox for cancer research. So we are super pleased about that and it was a lovely day. We had new participants and then the traditional favourites that always come back, the families. We just had a wonderful day.”

She adds, every year there is someone in the community affected by cancer. According to Thomson, the Terry Fox Foundation works with research for all cancers and that is what is changing the future. She says “there are so many new innovations and successes. It is very special to all of us and everyone that comes says ‘this is why we are here.’ In memory, and that Terry has set the bar for us to continue and finish it for him.”

Thomson notes you can donate to the Terry Fox Foundation all year long online at TerryFox.org. This is the 45th anniversary of the Terry Fox run and the theme for 2025 is “Finish It.”
