45th anniversary edition of Terry Fox Run set for September 14

Another edition of the very successful Water Valley Terry Fox Run is just around the corner.

This year will be the 45th Terry Fox Run for cancer research and it will be the 38th for Water Valley.

Since 1989, Volunteer Coordinator Mary Thomson notes that their community has raised over $238,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. She says “the theme this year is Finish It and that was because Terry started it 45 years ago and that is up to us as cancer research volunteers and for the run to try to finish it for him and continue his legacy.”

She hopes anyone and any families who have participated in the Water Valley run in the past will join them again on Sunday, September 14th. Thomson says “you can either do the 10 kilometers or you can do 2 kilometers or whatever you wish. You can walk, run, or ride along the back roads. It is very safe. The Water Valley/Cremona EMS team patrols the route so that the traffic is aware of the runners.”

Thomson says last year they were able to raise $10,800. Go online to run.terryfox.ca/water valley to register or donate. Thomson also has pledge forms and she can be reached at 403-637-2458.

The Water Valley Terry Fox Run will start with registration at 8:30am on Sunday, September 14th. The run goes rain or shine from 9 until 1pm. There will be water stations and signage en route. Refreshments and a BBQ will be provided.
