The Carstairs Heritage Centre is enjoying a busy summer full of fun for the whole family.
Curator John Cole, says the museum has seen plenty of traffic role by during busy community events like Canada Day as well as Beef and Barley Days.
They have more fun up their sleeves for next week too, with an opportunity to paint birdhouses on Tuesday.
“We’ve got a birdhouse painting event coming up. It’s open to all ages and takes place on August 12th, starting at 1 pm. We’ll be set up on the museum lawn across from the splash park, so families are more than welcome to enjoy both activities. It’s completely free of charge, and we’ve got all the supplies ready. We’re really looking forward to having some arts and crafts on the museum lawn — it should be a lot of fun!”
The Pointen Art Gallery is always a big draw at the Heritage Centre and currently features work by a Calgary couple, Eleanor Boyden and Peter Potapoff.
Cole adds that while you visit, you can have a little fun with a scavenger hunt.
“You know, our scavenger hunt is one of our most popular programs. We set up artifacts around the museum, and kids and families have a chance to explore and check them out. It usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on how tricky it is. We offer prizes to every person or family who completes it. Like I said, it’s a whole bunch of fun. We try to change it up once a month for our repeat visitors, and it’s always a really good time.”
The Carstairs Heritage Centre is located on Nanton Street, for summer hours or to find out more about anything happening at the Centre check out their website at CarstairsMuseum.ca.
