Bev Toews explains why she decided to run for Alberta’s New Democrats in the by-election. Toews says “in an election choice is really important, and so I wanted to be the voice on the ballot – and hopefully in the legislature – for people who want to get back to talking about health care, education, affordability, strong local economies that includes our farmers, and having a strong Alberta in a united Canada.”

Toews lives just outside of Olds and works at Ecole Olds High School. She also chairs the Fair Trade Olds committee and has spent many years promoting ethical, community-focused economics. She says “I’ve been an educator for over 25 years, I’m a good listener, I’m a community builder, and a strong advocate of supporting local businesses and food producers. I’ve been involved in a variety of organizations and on numerous committees. So I think that this shows that I’m invested in building and growing vibrant community a with a strong local economy, and when I say I’m going to do something I get it done.”

The voters go to the polls for all three provincial by-elections on June 23rd. By-elections in Alberta are also begin held that day for the Edmonton-Strathcona and the Edmonton-Ellerslie constituencies.
