RCMP execute search warrant, arrest Olds resident for possession of illegal firearm

A 30-year-old man faces charges after Olds RCMP searched a local motorhome this week.

At about 3 o’clock on Thursday afternoon, the Olds resident was taken into custody.

Mounties had received information that “he had an illegal handgun in his possession.” Assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services was requested as a result of the nature of the call and the search warrant was successfully executed.

Following his apprehension by police, the man was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm when knowing possession was unauthorized. A court date has been set for him in Didsbury on June 16th.

Olds RCMP say they “remain fully committed in building safer communities by working in partnership with our community as well as through investigative and enforcement efforts to achieve this goal.”
