The Didsbury Museum makes history every day and one of the latest donations is a treat for those who love historic vehicles.
Dawn Stewart, Museum Manager, points out that it is a horse drawn carriage and they had a grand launch for it this week. She says “so over the course of its life we know that it had four different owners. The very first owner was Charlie Caush and he is no longer with us but his son Alex was able to attend the grand opening. Two of the other three owners were also here that day, Scott Whiteside and Gary Russell – the one who ended up donating it to the museum.”
Stewart adds, the restored horse drawn carriage is being permanently housed in the agriculture room on the second floor. She says “so it is a Democrat. So it is a carriage that was built in; we think between 1900 and 1905 by the McLaughlin Carriage Company. It is a horse drawn carriage in absolutely pristine shape. It was redone in the late 80s by Gary Russell and his daughter Mackenzie as a 4-H project.”
The Didsbury Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm. Find more on their social media channels or the website DidsburyMuseum.ca.
