The 2025 Tax Rate Bylaw was given the green light by Town of Didsbury council at this week’s meeting.
The residential municipal mill rate is set at 6.76 and the non-residential municipal mill rate at 8.67. However, the Town points out that due to increases in requisitions collected on behalf of the province – including a 15 per cent jump up in the provincial education requisition – the combined residential mill rate has decreased by 3 per cent from 2024 and the combined non-residential mill rate has increased by 1 per cent. So the bottom line for the average home assessed at $324,000, is that the tax increase will be about $8 per month.
Meanwhile, Didsbury council has also approved the awarding of the East Reservoir project contract in the amount of just over $7.1 million. Mayor Rhonda Hunter says “construction of the project is scheduled to begin this summer. Council gave first reading to the borrowing bylaw in the amount of up to $3.5 million to fund the project costs. Reserves, off-site levies, and the AMWWP (Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership) provincial grant will also fund the reservoir project.”
Mayor Hunter also highlights the fact that the arena condenser for the Didsbury Memorial Complex has been ordered and delivery is expected in June with installation completion scheduled for mid-July. A condenser is a vital component of the ammonia refrigeration system that cools and condenses ammonia vapor, which is then used to create and maintain the ice surface. Unfortunately, the discovery of an ammonia leak last year led to the ice being removed from the DMC for the arena surfaces and the curling rink.
