Wildfire Danger In Rocky Mountain House Forest Area Listed As Very High

Wildfire season continues in the province and over the weekend it resulted in Alberta Emergency Alerts being issued due to wildfire activity for places including the County of Grande Prairie, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and the Municipal District of Greenview.

According to the province, we all have a role to play in preventing wildfires.

The most recent Rocky Mountain House Forest Area Update was issued just after 5pm on Saturday. The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain Forest Area is listed as very high.

According to a press release, forest fuels have dried out due to the dry, warm weather which means there is now a wildfire hazard. Under these conditions, a wildfire can start easily and spread quickly.

If you are planning a to have a campfire, do so safely and remember to properly extinguish it when you are done. Soak the ashes, stir them, and soak them again until they are cool to the touch. Never leave your campfire unattended.
