5th annual Smokeshow set for Saturday

The 5th annual Smokeshow Show and Shine will go on Saturday at Cam Clark Ford in Olds.

The event welcomes any and all to come on by and check out rides from every era of time, while raising money for a local charities.

Robin Brooke is Sales Manager at Cam Clark Ford in Olds, he talks about how the event got started.

“We’re a car dealership, and we wanted to do something fun — so we started the Smokeshow Basically, a car show. When we first did it, we partnered with a couple of local businesses, and it just made sense — Kolbs Fine Meats, Ottos Electric, with the smoker sales. That’s where the name came from: The Smoke Show. We had some fun burnouts, great cars, and a good time all around. It’s really grown. We started out with about 35 or 40 cars. Now, we’ve had as many as 115 or 120. We’ve added a few new things over the years too — bouncy castles, face painting, even the fire department comes out with the ladder trucks. It’s turned into a great community event. As long as the weather is with us, it’s always a fun time — and it just keeps getting better.”

The show will run from 11am until 4pm, there is no charge for admission but they will be taking donations for burgers served up by Kolbs Fine Meats.

Brooke says every year they pick a local charity to raise money for, he says this year they have chosen the Rural Alberta Ride For Dad in the fight against prostate cancer.

“This year, we decided that the Ride4Dad was going to be the recipients of all the funds donated this year. We always aim high. Our average over the last few years is right around that $4,000 to $5,000 mark. So we’re hoping to take that number and just bump it again.”

The 5th annual Smokeshow starts at 11am on Saturday at Cam Clark Ford in Olds.
