Canada Day festivities in Didsbury are running from 1 until 4pm on Tuesday (July 1st).
Didsbury Museum Manager Dawn Stewart says they have had a really big party at the Museum the last few years on July 1st. She says “it will be the museum and surrounding area. So right in the museum we have some kids crafts. We’re going to have some birthday cake for Canada’s birthday. We have ice cream out in the front yard. Hopefully the weather cooperates and we can have the model trains running in the front yard as well that day.”
Stewart adds, their Didsbury high school students have provided them with a bunch of art work showcasing “what Canada Day means to them?” at the Museum. She says it is something they have not had in the past and you can check it out in their Mercantile room.
Go online to DidsburyMuseum.ca to see the full list of activities planned for Canada Day. She says “celebrate Canada Day in the park. So that’s the empty lot near the museum. We’re going to have some bouncy houses, we’re going to have an outdoor market over there, kind of min-carnival games and that’s in addition to everything happening on the front lawn and within the museum. So this whole area is going to be buzzing with activities for the whole family.” In the event that the weather takes a turn for the worse, Stewart says the bouncy houses and the market will move to the Didsbury Memorial Complex like they did last year.
The Town of Didsbury is also offering a free swim at the Aquatic Centre from 1 until 4pm on Canada Day. The Canada Day fireworks at Memorial Park will wrap things up after dark on July 1st.
