A test of the country’s new National Public Alerting System- Alert Ready, is scheduled to take place across the country on May 7th.
During the test, Canadians will receive one message from their provincial or territorial emergency management organization through televisions, radios, cell phones, and other compatible devices.
The message will simulate an emergency alert, complete with the alert tone; however, it will indicate that it is a test and does not require any action from the public.
This comes as part of the CRTC’s requirements that wireless service providers and broadcasters issue one test alert per year, usually in May during Emergency Preparedness Week, and potentially again in November.
In Alberta, testing is scheduled for 1:55 p.m. MDT.
