Bear Valley Rescue has been registered federal charity for over 20 years now.
Kathy Bartley, President of the Bear Valley Rescue Society, says they focus on rescuing horses that have no where to go. She says “there is a pretty active horse slaughter industry in Canada. So horses that are pets can sometimes end up in the slaughter pipeline and a lot of times people have horses as pets or even as riding companions, but when people get older, lose their farm, retire, pass away it is really hard for people to find homes for horses that were once cared for, and so we step in in a lot of situations like that.” Bartley points out that they currently have about 150 horses at the rescue and about another 60-70 out at foster homes.
There is a chance to meet the animals at an open house this Saturday from 10am until 4pm with a raffle, a BBQ, guided tours, and more.
Bear Valley Rescue is located in Mountain View County, south west of Bergen on Range Road 60. Find contact information and more on the Bear Valley Rescue Facebook page.
