Take a trip through time with the Hainstock Cemetary

The Hainstock Cemetery has been a part of the greater community of Olds for over 100 years and next week, you can take a journey through the years as part of a special fundraising effort.

The volunteer board is hosting a special short historical tour of the cemetery that will include six stories about the lives of people that are interned there.

Gary Yewell is a member of the Hainstock Cemetery board, he says the Hainstock Cemetery dates back well over 100 years and is uniquely tied to Olds.

“We’ve decided to do a cemetery tour of the Hainstock Cemetery, because really, it has so much history. The first graves there are actually from the late 1800s. This tour starts at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5th.”

Yewell says the tour is open to all and donations are welcome.

He says they are trying to build a special contemplation area for the cemetery.

“What we’re trying to build with this fundraising is a sitting area, a contemplation area, a reflection area if you will. Just somewhere where people can come and take some time at the center, with some benches and such. So the purpose of this tour is to fundraise for that.”

Yewell says they will accept any and all donations, if you would like to send an e-transfer donation send it to HainstockCemetary@gmail.com.

The tour will get underway at 6:30 on Tuesday night, the Hainstock Cemetery is located west of Olds on the corner of highway 27 and range road 22.
