The Sundre Pro Rodeo will definitely be bigger this year and it will probably be better as well, if the organizers have their way.
Scott Smith, Vice President of the Sundre Rodeo and Race Association, notes that they have been building for this for the past 11 months and it is finally here, so they are ready to go. According to Smith, they are starting one day early this year. He says “it is a good sign. We are seeing lots of demand from a number of contestants that want to come and enter and our fans are filling the stands which necessitated adding a fourth performance on Thursday night. So that’s a good sign. We’re real excited about the way things have developed and grown.”
Smith points out that their payout for the competitors is up for this year as well. He says “our rodeo now is $10,000 added for each of the eight events. So we’ve gone from $8,000 in 2024 to $10,000 in 2025 which we expect will bring the best cowboys and cowgirls to Sundre, Alberta.”
He highlights the fact that their new VIP grandstand is about triple the size of the old one with better access, better sound, and it includes a built in bar. Smith says “for all of our sponsors and VIP guests. It’s brand new, it is just something we are very proud to show off and excited to present to our fans. Yeah, we’re really excited about this year. I think this is just a nice way to celebrate the 45th anniversary. We’ve got some great things, fireworks on Friday night, our new grandstand, Drew Gregory (Saturday’s cabaret), our Wild Horse Saloon will be open on Friday night.”
The BS Bingo is today at 5pm. Gates open at 5:30, and tonight’s rodeo performance is family night and it will include the crowning of the new Miss Rodeo Sundre.
