Erratic driver stopped by Olds RCMP, burnt by possession of illegal cigarettes

A Spruce Grove resident faces charges, including possession of untaxed tobacco, after being stopped on the QE2 Highway.

Olds RCMP responded to a call at about 9am on June 8th after an erratic driver was spotted going southbound on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway “traveling over 150 kilometers an hour and almost side swiped another vehicle, passed unsafely and veered into other lanes of travel.”

When eventually pulled over by police, officers were able to see “illegal cigarettes in plain view during the traffic stop.”

A 37-year-old man cannot be named yet as the charges have not been sworn before the courts but frauds upon government and possession of untaxed tobacco are the charges he will be answering to when a court date in Didsbury rolls around on August 25th.

Thanks are being passed along by Olds RCMP to their colleagues with the Didsbury RCMP for their assistance with this investigation.
