A 39-year-old from St. Walburg, Saskatchewan is flying high early in the brand new World Professional Chuckwagon Association season.
Jamie Laboucane finished the opening week of the season by posting the fastest time on the last night in Grande Prairie, and then he used that momentum to propel his Wild Rows Pumps & Pressure Ltd. outfit to the win at the 2025 Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship.
Father’s Day is coming up this Sunday and Laboucane’s dad Brian has had a long and illustrious career as a chuckwagon driver as well. Jamie explains what advice Brian passed down to him. He says “probably the most valuable advice is ‘if it was easy, everybody would do it.’ It is a really humbling sport. Right when you think you have got everything figured out and things are rocking it throws a monkey wrench into your whole operation and you have to almost start from scratch sometimes. So it is just that mentality that things aren’t always going to go right, but you keep scratching away and, you know, keep trying and good things will happen.”
Laboucane worked in nine new horses to put into the mix for this season. He says “your horses feed off your energy. I believe that if they know that you are excited and you want them to win, they are going to try harder for you.” Laboucane came into this season optimistic and hopeful about his chances.
