The World Professional Chuckwagon Association storms into Grande Prairie to begin the 2025 season this week and live coverage can be heard on 96.5 The Ranch.
The Ranch is the new home for the WPCA radio broadcasts tune in by setting your radio dial to 96.5 FM, listen live on our website mymountainviewnow.com, or download the Radio Player Canada app. The opening night of WPCA racing in Grande Prairie begins on Wednesday, May 28th at 7 o’clock.
The two-time defending WPCA champion is Chanse Vigen. The 41-year-old from Calgary is enjoying some increased notoriety amongst fans of chuckwagon racing. He says “it’s fun. It means you are doing something right. We’ve enjoyed the last couple of years, have been pretty successful – knock on wood. We’ve generated a lot of money for charity which has been also cool. It’s given us a platform to help some people in need. I’m not sure how much longer we’re going to be doing this, maybe three or four more years, so we want to enjoy the ride while we’re on it. No, its good. Anytime that you can be considered somewhat of a fan favourite who wouldn’t want that, right?”
Vigen first joined the tour in 2008 and he has been working on refining his craft ever since. He says “there is a lot to this game. I changed how I did just about everything. I’ve talked about it before. I changed the way that I trained and how I approached the game. How I purchased horses in the off-season. Even my driving style. Really dialed in my own lifestyle and it’s all about winning and it’s all about the horses and it’s all about putting the work in. We’ve got our head down and we are going to do our best.”
Racing action can be heard live on 96.5 The Ranch from this Wednesday through Sunday from the Grande Prairie Stompede. This week’s event includes a 44 driver line up and 11 heats nightly. Chanse Vigen will be part of Heat 11.
96.5 The Ranch is the home of all of the races for the 2025 WPCA Pro Tour along with all 10 nights from the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby. Vigen lists winning the Rangeland Derby for the first time among his goals for the 2025 season of racing.
